It's about enabling the digital nomad

We have reached a tipping point where business workgroups, and working communities in general, need no longer be tethered by proximity. Today the tools exist to move entire workflows into a collaborative digital space. Whether it's to make money or to change minds, communities can form without regard to the location of its members. Distributed workforces, remote collaboration, telecommuting, and coworking are important terms in what I do. It's my mission to create data solutions that allow people to work independently of location and to be more efficient wherever that location may be. Drive less. Get stuff done. Unplug and enjoy the rest of your day.

Software Development

I'm a freelance developer who writes web application software to eliminate your paper and desktop-software based processes, allowing your company to decentralize and to scale more rapidly. Most of my projects involve process automation and task management. I often build solutions which connect to an existing database system and extend its functionality into the web space. Keywords for what I do might include: systems integration, middleware, intranets, content management systems (CMS), and web services.

Coworking

I am an active member of Berkeley Coworking, in Berkeley, California. We are a group of entrepreneurs, journalists, developers, and web workers who share both workspace and community. I've been actively coworking since 2007 and consider myself to be a coworking evangelist. It has changed the way I work, and I'm a huge fan of both the concept and the practice as I have witnessed it to date. I'm interested in facilitating more coworking communities throughout the bay area, particularly close to where I live in Contra Costa County.

Geolocation

Part of my work and a big part of my hobby is geolocation. To be able to pinpoint an object on this big blue marble is just amazing! Here are a few technologies I'm playing with right now:

Automatic Position Reporting System (APRS)

Google Latitude
